When George Glasgow Jr, CEO of George Cleverley, first approached Alex, he provided a list of places I should visit for inspiration on “what not to do.” He then added, “It must end up looking like it’s been here forever.” Unusual for a shop front, I thought. This classic British brand is the only privately owned bespoke shoemaker left in the country, embodying everything you’d expect from a world-class, luxury ‘made to measure’ shoe manufacturer. Located in a Dickensian arcade just off Bond Street, these shoes are still made on site by some of the best craftsmen in the world. The shop design had to take a back seat yet needed to make the most of every ounce of available space.
